The old ways are the best ways.
A little while ago I mentioned the problem I used to have shaving, having delicate skin and the like makes it a real pain, or it was a pain until I moved to straight razor shaving. Anyway, the product I used to use, The Art Of Shaving is no longer being imported into this country, it’s not going to be readily available anyway, and before you start telling me about some little poky place ten miles east of nowhere that still has one pot left and it’ll only cost me my house, I’ll pass, thanks. The product I was planning to move onto, Acqua di Parma, didn’t pan out that well. It’s available at a lot of places but none of the places I found it seemed to stock the full range, meaning I’d have to buy from several different sources, which is just a bit of a pain in the aspidistra. So I decided to have a rethink.
I’m a major a pain, actually I’m a downright nightmare when it comes to narrowing down a product choice, I go through a multitude of available products evaluating and comparing all the options before gradually narrowing things down to my ultimate choice. So after several hours I’d come to what I thought was the best way to go. Funnily enough YouTube is starting to play a bigger part in my decision-making process these days. It’s all well and good reading product details and customer reviews, which I tend to take with a pinch of salt to be honest, but getting a feel for a company by how they present themselves visually is really a big plus point. And the new company I’m using has a nice range of videos to give you a real taste of who they are and what they do.
The company, as you might have guessed buy the image above is Murdock of London. It’s an old fashioned barber’s, hair cuts, beard trims, straight razor shaves and general man pampering. And why the hell not! I love the whole look and feel of each of the shops these guys have, if I were closer to London, where they’re exclusively based, I’d be tempted to make myself an appointment, yes even with my Social Anxiety Disorder. That’s another thing about these places, they aren’t a conveyor-belt affair like modern day barbers, they seem to operate on an appointment basis so it’s just you and the barber with a nice quiet peaceful place to yourselves.
I’ve just gone for the shaving range, since that was all I was looking for initially, but since using this stuff for a couple of weeks now I think I’m going to expand a bit. Hey, if I had the money I would buy the company. (That paraphrase might be a little old for most). The products you can see below are what I’ve gone for. Pre-shave Oil, Post-shave Balm and Shaving Cream. And my god does it work! It’s almost half the price I was paying for my previous make of product but it’s twice as good, I kid you not. The oil is quite thin but coats and clings amazingly, and when they say to use just a couple of drops, believe me that really is all you need. The cream lathers up to the consistency of spreadable butter and the balm cools and refreshes like nothing I’ve ever used, you can actually feel it working, it’s quite incredible. So with that all being such a hit I might splash out on the cologne they do and even the beard moisturiser, I wear a goatee in case you were wondering why I’d need that if I shave. Oh, and the scent, Avalon is what they call it, and it’s first class. It’s masculine and all together classic, none of those sweet girly smells a lot of other products go for. And my wife very much approves, ahem.
One thing I found very surprising was the fact that after looking at a number of places that sell these products I finally went to the company’s own website to see if they sold direct, which they do, to find them cheaper than anywhere else! Usually the producing company has to stick to their retail recommended price while everyone else undercuts it, but for some reason that’s not the case with this lot. And more power to them for it, I say. Another refreshing thing is that there’s a good amount of info on the site too, but it’s not overdone waffle, it’s succinct and to the point, it’s just what you need to know and nothing more. I really like the way this company presents itself, it seems to have good old-fashioned values and it doesn’t gouge you with ridiculous prices! I can safely say I’m a fan.
All the best.
