Why have one when you can have three? Or four, eventually.
Yes I’m back promoting someone else’s stuff, actually four bits of stuff, actually only three bits of stuff with the fourth not released until late 2014. As previously mentioned these ‘A Novel Idea’ posts aren’t reviews, I can’t tell you what you’re going to like or dislike so I won’t attempt to. This is just to say I like this stuff, you might too, you never know.
So, I’ve already read the first book in Elspeth Cooper’s The Wild Hunt series, Songs of the Earth, a while ago now, and have just started in on book 2, Trinity Rising. I also have the third book, The Raven’s Shadow awaiting its turn and will be buying the fourth, The Dragon House. At this point it might be an idea to mention that I’m not a fantasy fan, and that’s how these books are labeled and marketed, it’s all just a little too similar, mud and swords. I also find it quite hard to follow with all the tongue-twisty names. But after just a couple of chapters of the first book I decided that this book actually surpasses the typical fantasy label. It’s about the people and their lives and necessities, the world around them may be a fantasy one but it’s secondary to the story and doesn’t intrude, it simply lends a rich background…
Oops, that started to get a little reviewy didn’t it, my bad.
Anyway, Elspeth Cooper is the author of this series and she really is a beautiful writer, I’m convinced she could turn her hand to write any and every genre. Simply put, forget the label, if you like good writing then start reading. And to whet your appetite she’s even been good enough to put the first three chapters of each of the available books on her website. But be warned, you’ll be hooked, I guarantee.
All the best.
